2018 Oita Japan Festival #OitaATX
Celebrate the culture of Japan at the Oita Japan Festival!
Saturday, August 11, 2018
Asian American Resource Center (AARC)
You will experience Japanese food and drink, kids' activities, cultural education, and more!
Featured performances include energetic Japanese punk rock music by Peelander-Z, powerful traditional Japanese drumming by Austin Taiko, and elegant tea ceremony by Central Texas Chado.
Have you ever wanted to try Japanese calligraphy? You’ll have your chance to show off your skills in the Shodo Calligraphy Contest! Contestants can participate regardless whether they know how to draw Japanese calligraphy or not. Join this fun and entertaining event in which the audience will help vote on the calligraphy produced that looks the most similar to the original Shodo artwork, which the winner will take home as a prize! No preparation necessary, just a desire to have fun and learn about Japanese calligraphy. All ages are welcome to compete. Limited spaces. Be sure to register to compete when you arrive at the AARC.
The AARC is located at 8401 Cameron Rd, Austin, TX 78754.
